A Brief History of Branson, MO

Though Branson, MO is now affectionately know as the “live music capital of the world”, it was not always so well known. The humble beginnings of Branson, MO date back to the early 1800’s when Rueben Branson opened a general store. This general store eventually became the post office of Branson, MO.

Branson, MO continued to expand until the idea of creating a resort town began to take root in early 1900’s. These ideals continued to grow after World War II as many craftsmen began moving into the area. This vision of a resort town was strengthened during this time by the beautification efforts of the Civic League of Branson, MO, founded by the women of Branson, MO.

Then in 1959 the first show in Branson, MO was officially kicked off. Known as the Baldknobbers Hillbilly Jamboree Show, it was quickly followed by the likes of the Old Mill Theater and Silver Dollar City. After the Missouri Pacific railroad canceled service to Branson, MO in 1960 a new road was quickly built to accommodate the overwhelming auto traffic now making its way into Branson, MO.

From this point on the expansion of Branson, MO has been well sustained.
